Ballinger’s Director of Healthcare Planning, Fernanda Pires, EDAC, Lean Greenbelt, will present research at the Environmental Design Research Association EDRA56 conference on May 28 in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
Her presentation, “The Role of Environmental Design in Cancer Care Setting on Staff, Patients, and Operational Outcomes: Literature Review,” examines how layout and design influence the experiences of patients and caregivers, as well as key operational outcomes. The research, conducted with Marzia A. Chowdhury of the University of Kansas, underscores the importance of evidence-based design in creating environments that support healing, reduce stress, and improve efficiency in oncology care.
This year’s EDRA56 conference theme, “Designing Communities for Climate Action
and Resilience,” highlights the broader role of the built environment in shaping sustainable, equitable futures.
