Stairwell at University of Michigan's Kinesiology Building

From the sky-lit atrium to the laboratories on the lowest level of infill, the University of Michigan Kinesiology Building exemplifies movement toward excellence. We are proud to announce that our transformation of this Albert Kahn building received a 2022 Merit Award from AIA Philadelphia during yesterday’s Design Awards.

Our interdisciplinary design team collaborated with the University of Michigan to renew this historic building’s relevance as a home for cutting-edge scientific research by filling an old courtyard with new construction and new purpose. The building supports the University’s goal of carbon neutrality by making use of existing materials, through improved thermal performance, and with natural light, among many other sustainable features.
