Ballinger at the 2018 Lab Design Conference

Ballinger participated in the annual Lab Design Conference, held this year in Philadelphia. Ballinger’s Director of Laboratory Planning, Rick Honeywell, participated in an all-new community engagement forum, “Mentoring the Next Generation of Lab Design Professionals.” The panel, made up of experienced lab design professionals and architects, discussed the qualities they look for in new recruits and how to identify employees who would benefit from expert guidance. Ballinger also hosted guided tours of Colket Translational Research Building at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and Robert and Penny Fox Tower, a recent addition to the Wistar Institute.

Johns Hopkins University’s Undergraduate Teaching Labs wins 2017 Go Beyond Award from I2SL

The Undergraduate Teaching Labs at Johns Hopkins University won a “Go Beyond” Award at the 2017 International Institute for Sustainable Laboratories (I2SL) Annual Conference. The Go Beyond awards honor organizations, individuals, products, and projects that are advancing sustainable, high-performance facilities. The project was recognized during a ceremony October 16 in Boston.

Rick Honeywell Joins Ballinger as Director of Laboratory Planning

Ballinger is pleased to welcome Rick Honeywell to the architecture studio as Director of Laboratory Planning.

Rick has had direct project involvement with major laboratory facility projects ranging from renovation and expansion work to the design of new facilities.  He will bring his 30 years of experience to Ballinger to oversee the continued growth of the firm’s lab planning enterprise.

According to Jeff French, FAIA, Principal at Ballinger, “I have known Rick for 25 years and partnered with him as a lab planner on several notable projects.  Rick is a quality individual and a national leader in the lab planning community.  We are thrilled to have him on our team.”

Prior to joining Ballinger, Rick was a Principal in the laboratory planning practice at Jacobs Consultancy.  He is a graduate of Rutgers University.
