University of Wisconsin-Madison | Chemistry Instructional Building

Ballinger and Strang Architects have been engaged by the University of Wisconsin – Madison to design a ten-story 170,000 SF addition to the Chemistry instructional and research complex. The assignment includes renovation of 55,000 SF for general chemistry laboratories. The project evolved from a 2012 master plan developed by Ballinger and Aro Eberle Architects and is framed by the following objectives:
1. Maximize development of a limited site.
2. Incremental implementation to respond to incremental funding.
3. Long-term flexibility for program needs via adaptability of the plan and MEP systems.
4. Eliminate risk associated with HVAC systems obsolescence of existing buildings.
5. Create a sense of place and identity for the Chemistry program within the campus fabric
