Penn Medicine | Reimagining HUP

Beginning in 2002 and at regular intervals since, Ballinger has provided facilities master planning that created a framework for much needed expansion and department reorganization.
These master plans have defined short and long-term projects, enabling work, and a systems replacement spending plan for all deferred maintenance over the planning horizon. Most recently, Ballinger, KieranTimberlake and LF Driscoll collaborated on the planning for Penn Medicine’s New Patient Facility. The resulting concept of this inclusive and research-driven planning process is a truly unique and groundbreaking hospital facility, integrating clinical excellence, a healing patient experience, innovative research and teaching, urban/campus planning and meaningful sustainability through a collaborative, efficient design and delivery process. Ultimately, this facility will redefine inpatient medical care on the campus and become the lynchpin for connecting inpatient and outpatient care with translational research.
