Fire Protection Design Engineer

Ballinger is seeking talented and forward-thinking Fire Protection Design Engineer with 4-10 years’ experience to join our interdisciplinary project teams, and to contribute to the design of the Fire Protection systems for our research, healthcare, institutional and corporate clients.

Responsibilities

  • Engineering support in the form of standalone analysis modeling and documentation tasks within a larger project on project teams under direction of Senior/Project Engineer or Department Head Engineer
  • Active and direct role in document production
  • Interface and coordinate with other disciplines
  • Mentor team members junior to them
  • Develop knowledge of Ballinger’s project types: health care, academic/lab/research, corporate/workspace by active engagement with project teams and leadership.
  • Develop, modify and/or reviews drawings of systems or components
  • Assist technically in the resolution of design problems that may include performing field inspections, detailed design work and detailed checking of design computations
  • Perform basic calculations such as size required means of egress, maximum allowable building area, sprinkler system water supplies and smoke control equipment
  • Design sprinkler, fire alarm, and mass notification systems
  • Review, certify, and commission fire protection systems
  • Travel as project requirements dictate for surveys and field/site visits during construction

Technical Skills

  • CAD + Revit proficient
  • Excel, Word, and Analysis Software Proficient
  • Active role in drawing production including but not limited to picking up redlines, quality assessment of individual work, coordination with other disciplines and coordination reviews and team coordination meeting participation from SD through CA phases
  • Understanding of discipline’s drawing and graphic standards, adherence to standards for quality and consistency in Ballinger’s product
  • Strong interpersonal skills specifically with communication, dependability, responsibility, and teamwork

Requirements

  • Bachelor s degree in Mechanical or Fire Protection Engineering, or other related discipline
  • Proficiency in current versions of AutoCAD and REVIT
  • At least four years experience as fire protection design engineer
